Ison Slate

Ison Slate (slate.isonai.com) is the academic research workspace in the IsonAI family. Slate composes cited research reports by searching across 11 academic sources at once, including Indonesian sources rarely available in global tools.

Sources

OpenAlex, Semantic Scholar, PubMed, arXiv, CrossRef, EuropePMC, DOAJ, BASE, and CORE, plus two key differentiators: Garuda (Indonesian journals) and BPS (official Indonesian statistics). For Indonesian topics, Slate surfaces far more SINTA-accredited local journals than international indexes do.

Capabilities

  • Cited reports with a numbered bibliography and DOI links. Every scholarly reference in the bibliography is looked up in Crossref, Semantic Scholar, Garuda and the SINTA journal collection; found ones get a ✓ Verified badge, ones whose record differs (for example the year) get Metadata differs.
  • Source check: every cited sentence is checked against its source page; click a citation number to see the passage that was checked and the verdict (supported, partial, contradicted, not found, could not be checked). Every specific figure (percentages, p-values, sample sizes) is also matched against the text of the source it cites: if the exact figure is in another source the report cites, the citation moves there; if it is in none, the citation gets a # marker and the Evidence panel names the figure to check. If a sentence cites several sources, a not-found citation may be removed while at least one supporting source remains; the sentence itself is retained.
  • Export the report to Word (.docx), laid out in APA 7 style when the citation style is APA, plus RIS and BibTeX bibliographies for Zotero/Mendeley/EndNote; APA, MLA, Chicago, or numeric citations.
  • Literature matrix: a table of design, sample, main findings, and limitations for each cited source, filled from the source text (full-text PDF when available); downloadable as CSV and included in the Word export.
  • Reference check (Check refs menu): upload your own draft (thesis, paper, article) and Slate looks every reference up in Crossref, OpenAlex, Semantic Scholar, Garuda, Google Books, and the SINTA journal collection indexed by Ison Search (including journals without DOIs) (found, metadata differs, DOI points to another work, retracted, not found), pairs in-text citations with the reference list (citations without an entry, entries never cited), and checks whether each source supports the sentence that cites it, with the passage. Downloadable as .md or .csv; uses one Standard run and the draft is not stored.
  • Academic source filters: publication-year range, SINTA accreditation, SJR quartile, open access only, and source language, plus a Prefer Indonesian SINTA journals option that also searches the 1M+ SINTA journal articles in Ison Search (including PDF full text).
  • Clarifying questions: when a research question is too broad, Slate asks up to three short questions (population, region, period, and the like) before it starts; all optional.
  • Journal-quality badges: SJR quartiles (Q1–Q4) for international journals, SINTA ranks (1–6) for Indonesian journals.
  • Consensus analysis: each paper is classified as supporting/contradicting/mixed relative to the research question.
  • Evidence synthesis: a narrative summary of where the bulk of the evidence points, along with divergent findings and methodological notes.
  • Follow-up Q&A that keeps citing the report's sources.
  • Multi-format Notebook: collect documents, web pages, YouTube videos with transcripts, audio, and images in one workspace; ask questions with openable page, section, slide, sheet, or timestamp citations.
  • Notebook sources: PDF, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, OpenDocument, RTF, EPUB, text/tabular files, common audio, and common images up to 50 MB per file, plus web URLs and YouTube.
  • Studio: create source-grounded summaries, mind maps, slide decks, infographics, data tables, flashcards, FAQs, quizzes, study guides, timelines, and suggested questions.
  • Notes and source selection: save notes and choose the specific sources that may be used for one question.
  • Library: save and search reports and Notebooks, group reports into collections, share by link, and continue or revise research.
  • Public Notebook links: publish a revocable read-only view; private chat history and original source files are not included.

How to use it

  1. Open slate.isonai.com and sign in with your IsonAI account.
  2. Write a research title or question.
  3. Choose a depth: Quick (± 500 words), Standard (± 1,500 words), or Deep (3,000+ words).
  4. Via Advanced: report language (Indonesian/English), audience (academic/policy/general), citation style, and academic source filters (year, SINTA, quartile, open access, language). With both SINTA and quartile set, a journal passes if it meets either; filters do not narrow web sources.
  5. "Open full setup →" for the full configuration, including selecting up to 10 grounding sources ("Find academic sources"), uploading PDF/DOCX/text (up to 25 MB per file), or pasting URLs, arXiv IDs, and DOIs.
  6. Press "Begin Research". If the question is still too broad, Slate shows a few short questions you can answer with one tap or skip.
  7. When the report is done: check the source-check dots on citations, build a Literature matrix, or download via Export .docx / .ris / .bib / .pdf / .md.

To check your own draft, choose Check refs in the top bar (or "Check its references" on the home page), upload a file or paste the full text including the reference list, and press Start check. Results appear in three tabs: References, Cited sentences, and Consistency; tick "Show only items to review" to filter.

To use Notebook, choose Notebook in Slate, create a workspace, then upload files or add a URL/YouTube source. Once sources are ready, use Chat for cited questions or Studio for generated artifacts. You can select specific sources before sending a question. The Notebook, Notes, sources, chat, and artifacts are saved to your account and can be reopened from Library.

Slate vs Deep Research

  • Slate: full academic reports (journals, quality badges, BibTeX) for literature reviews, undergraduate/graduate theses, and policy briefs.
  • Deep Research: deep-diving a topic from general web sources, right in the chat conversation.

Slate does not import chat conversations automatically; distill your discussion into a single research question (you can ask IsonAI to summarize it), or upload the summary as a grounding source.

Quota

Slate has daily usage limits per research depth based on your account plan; the limits are shown in the interface. Slate runs on the Omni tier.

Limits

  • Coverage depends on the academic source indexes; paywalled articles are reachable only through their metadata and abstracts.
  • The reference check can only confirm references indexed in scholarly databases; "Not found" is not proof that a reference is fake. The sentence check reads the source's open text or abstract, so claims from paywalled sections may not be readable.
  • Source check and the literature matrix are automatic: they assess what the source says, not whether the source is right. Read the passage and check the matrix before citing.
  • A YouTube video must have an accessible transcript. Audio transcription and image understanding depend on source quality.
  • Notebook does not create Audio Overviews.
  • Direct email invitations with viewer/editor roles are currently disabled. Notebook sharing currently uses a revocable public read-only link.
