# Using chat

This page covers everyday workflows in IsonAI chat: managing conversations, asking follow-ups, controlling an answer in progress, and sharing results.

## Starting and managing conversations

- **New conversations** are created from the button in the sidebar. Every conversation is saved automatically to your account and can be reopened from history.
- **Conversation titles** are generated automatically from the message content; conversations can be found via the search box in the sidebar.
- **Folders** group conversations and also separate their memory per project — see [Folders & projects](/en/projects/).
- **Deleting a conversation** removes it from history and from cross-conversation context recall.

## Follow-up questions

IsonAI understands references to earlier messages in the same conversation — "the one from before", "the second option", "continue that section" — so you don't need to repeat context. In very long conversations, IsonAI can still recall relevant earlier parts of the conversation when needed.

After an answer finishes, IsonAI often offers clickable follow-up questions to go deeper into the topic.

## Stopping, retrying, and resuming

- **Stop** — while an answer is being written, the send button becomes a stop button.
- **Retry** — requests a new answer for the last message; the old answer is replaced by the new result.
- **Automatic recovery** — if the connection drops or the tab closes mid-answer, the answer is still completed on the server and saved. Reload the conversation to see the full result. Briefly switching apps on your phone does not cancel the answer.

## Sharing and export

- **Share links** — from a conversation's share menu, choose "Create Share Link" to create a public link anyone can open without an account. The link can be revoked from the same menu.
- **Markdown export** — the ".md" button in the share menu downloads the entire conversation as a Markdown file.
- **File downloads** — results from [document editing](/en/documents/) are downloaded from the download card in the conversation.

Export to other formats (such as Word) is not yet available; use Markdown export or copy the answer text.

## Custom Instructions

Settings → Custom Instructions adds personal directions that apply across all conversations — for example "always answer in formal Bahasa Indonesia" or "I'm a backend engineer, no need for basic explanations".

## Limits

- History and cross-device sync require an account; guest conversations are not saved.
- [Incognito](/en/memory/) conversations are deliberately kept out of history.
- A share link shows the conversation's content at the moment the link was created; later messages are not shared automatically.
